With Warmer Days Ahead, I Swear by This Trick to Keeping Ants Out of My Kitchen
As soon as the weather warms up, one tiny but persistent problem tends to make an appearance in many homes—ants. They may be small, but once they find their way into your kitchen, they can become a serious nuisance. I used to try every trick in the book, from store-bought sprays to sealing every crack in sight. But nothing worked quite as well as this simple, natural trick that I now swear by to keep ants out of my kitchen—for good.
It’s cheap, safe around kids and pets, and it works fast. Here’s exactly what I do, and why it works so well.
The Trick: Vinegar & Essential Oil Barrier Spray
The secret weapon? White vinegar mixed with peppermint essential oil. It’s not only incredibly easy to make, but it also creates a scent barrier that ants can’t stand—while leaving your kitchen smelling fresh and clean.
Here’s the simple recipe:
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 1 cup water
- 10–15 drops peppermint essential oil
- Optional: a few drops of dish soap for extra sticking power
- Spray bottle
Mix all ingredients together in the spray bottle, give it a good shake, and you’re ready to go.
