Instructions

1. Prepare the Cabbage:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Carefully remove the core from the cabbage head.

  • Remove the cabbage and peel off 8–10 large leaves. Set them aside to cool.

2. Make the Filling:

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, garlic, egg, paprika, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.

3. Assemble the Rolls:

  • Place a cabbage leaf on a flat surface and add a heaping tablespoon of the filling to the center.
  • Fold the sides of the leaf over the filling, then roll it up tightly from the bottom. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.

4. Prepare the Sauce:

  • In a medium bowl, mix together the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, basil, salt, and pepper.

5. Arrange and Cook:

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Pour the remaining sauce over the rolls, ensuring they’re well coated.
  • Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.

  • Remove the rolls from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
