Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

2. Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

3. Combine the Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

4. Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients

  • Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Stir in the hot water or coffee—the batter will be thin, but that’s what makes the cake so moist.

5. Add the Chocolate Chips (Optional)

  • Gently fold in the chocolate chips for an extra burst of chocolate in every bite.

6. Bake the Cake

  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (or with just a few moist crumbs).

7. Cool & Serve

  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Slice and enjoy!

Tips & Variations

🔸 Flavor Variations – Add a pinch of cinnamon for a warm undertone, or swirl in some peanut butter or caramel for a fun twist.
